goodbye summer

It's a little late and I'm horrible at keeping up with posting. But soon I won't have to share my laptop so it's all good.

So I love autumn. Love, love, loooooooove. It was alright in Korea, I still wish that I had gone to see the leaves change near Seoul. But I loved it here in PA two years ago. I got my cinnamon apple candles burning (that's what I think of when I think of scents that remind me of Fall) and the house is decorated for Halloween. Ha ha, I'm a fiend for this holiday. Wait until I start the Halloween posts!!!! I thought about redoing the layout for my blog for the month... We'll see.

I start my job training tomorrow! Finally, and yet I'm a bit anxious. New coworkers, new employer. Gulp. But it's at a bakery! Cross your fingers for me.

And here is my tribute to summer. My brother-in-law's family has a cabin out in the middle of the state. Very private, very relaxing there. So here are the photos from that! It's not the last thing we did before summer ended, but I didn't take any pictures while we were at Kennywood so next best thing!

We still have no idea how to play this game properly.

Poor Lulu's not feeling well today. I will be sad to leave her tomorrow.

score--everything went better than expected

Went to sell some books at Half Price AND I found all the out-of-print books that I have wanted for ages! And they're having a sale now! SCORE!

Also found some vintage pulp fiction that I really want, and it also introduced me to Robert Mcginnis- a prolific pulp fiction cover artist that was very abundant in the 60s. So I shall share some covers here-- I love the way he portrays the Mod femme fatales. I do love this style. I only wish I could pull it off. If my eyes weren't so sensitive I'd wear make-up like that more often.
I'm also trying to teach myself oil painting. One day I hope I get to that level. Someday.

getting on track

So that whole posting more often hasn't happened. Now that I share this one laptop with three people it makes it difficult to get on and do some things that I would like to. Also, I updated the OS X... NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT. AT ALL. Microsoft word was expensive Apple, FFFFFFFF I GOTTA BUY IT AGAIN?!

Also, in other news, I have a new job on the horizon. Will talk about it more once I sign some paperwork. Yea!


Anyway, the other day we made a trip to the Carnegie Museum. Love it! Though, I hate driving to it since the Oakland area is congested as hell with hospital workers and there are TWO different universities located there so all these students are always walking about.

I love how the museum is connected to the Library so that you can just sit and read and stare at dinosaur fossils all at once!

I image Egon Spengler is back there with a whole buncha lab coats and vials and microscopes.

How they installed the exhibits back in the day! The Carnegie Building is old with some awesome architecture. I must go back with a different lens to take photos of it.

Crisis of career moves! Bah!

Oh to be back in Chiang Mai, zip-lining through the forest. I just want to do that for work, where can I accomplish this?

Mm, yes it is a long way to the ground.

abbagabba people in cleveland are so nice

My mother and I drove to Cleveland to visit the Botanical Garden and for dim sum. (Yes, a two hour drive just for a few har gao and shui mai.)

I was impressed by all the lovely homes and the area where all the museums is picturesque. And everyone we encountered was so pleasant! The girl at the conservatory showed us the resident chameleon. Another one gave us free food at the grocery. Sadly, you can tell it's a hard-hit city; many of the houses are abandoned and bordered up. Driving around, even in daylight, feels dicey.  Oh Cleveland, I hope you make a recovery.

I did love the Costa Rica exhibit best; however I was terrified of the thousands of butterflies fluttering freely everywhere. I don't care if it is pretty, a bug is a bug.

The outside gardens were also fabulous. But as we are in the midst of a heat wave I did not spend much time walking around them to snap a lot of pictures.
